From Another (Alleged) Google Books Victim
printable version | Share on Facebook |

Yesterday I discovered that two (so far) of my published books appear for free on Google Books.

Since I didn't put them there, and I certainly have no recollection of having authorized anybody else to put them there, I'm wondering if you have any ideas about how to get them taken down.

The deadline for opting out of the Google settlement was a few months ago but you can absolutely demand they remove your books. Since many people didn't (and still don't) know of Google's act of scanning and publishing their work without permission, I can't imagine any judge forcing them to give up rights to their books to Google in the future. But, the system hasn't worked in authors' favor thus far so perhaps I'm being too optimistic.
