Pay: Pays flat fee $150 for articles of 600-1000 words; $250 for 2000-word features.
Hints: Writers/photographers for Appaloosa Journal must be knowledgeable of the horse industry.
Photos/Art: All submitted 35mm photos should be clear, relevant and of the highest quality. Prints should be no smaller than 4x6, although 8x10 prints are preferred. If negatives are not provided with prints, it is the freelance photographer's responsibility to provide appropriate size prints prior to publication. Transparencies may also be submitted. Captions, including identification of all horses and people pictured, are highly encouraged and model releases of all identifiable persons; the photographer's name and other pertinent information must accompany an image. To avoid marring a photo, never write on either side of the print. Pictured horses should be Appaloosas and should display the breed's color characteristics. Effective use of early morning and early evening light is encouraged. Freelance writers are responsible for taking or securing appropriate photographs and providing those photographs to Appaloosa Journal for use as illustrations in an assigned article. Payment included in article/feature unless otherwise agreed upon prior to article's or photo's acceptance.
