Current Needs: We welcome nuts-and-bolts, practical articles of interest to serious visual artists, emerging or professional. Examples: marketing how-to's, first-person stories on how an artist has built his career or an aspect of it, interviews with artists (business/career-building emphasis), and pieces on business practices and other topics of use to artists. The tone of our magazine is practical, can-do, and uplifting. Writers may use as many, or as few, words as necessary to tell the whole story. We do not run reviews or art historical pieces, nor do we like writing characterized by 'critic-speak,' philosophical hyperbole, psychological arrogance, politics, or New Age religion. (In fact that sentence was precisely the kind of thing that turns us off. Submit complete ms (unless we've worked with you before and know your skills). No queries.
Pay: Pays $150 for a first-run article or $75 for a reprint.
Hints: If you are bound by restrictions on your article(s), either don't submit it or tell us specifically what the limitations are.
Photos/Art: Welcomes B&W glossy prints (best) or glossy color prints (2nd best) and a far removed choice of jpegs. Prefers old-fashioned technology for now. Pays $25 for each published photo. Guidelines online at http://www.artcalendar.com/CoverArt.htm
