Description of Publication:
100% freelance. Bloodlust-UK is the largest vampire genre website in the UK, quite possibly worldwide, and specializes in promoting the fiction, film and literature. Most of the work we accept is from new writers, though we have published known and published writers on site also. We have a forum on site called 'Blood Offerings' where our sub-editors work with prospective writers if we've requested tweaks or re-writes and offer advice and guidance. It's also used for writers to post their acceptances and decline letters and generally provide encouragement. Have an interactive fiction section for 'down-time' or if you're suffering from block. Circ. 8K with over 1M hits online last year. Monthly. Pays on publication. Publishes ms 1 - 3 weeks after acceptance. Pieces submitted should be exclusive: No reprints and no publishing anywhere else for 60 days after it is published on Bloodlust-UK. Responds 3 - 8 weeks. Sample online. Subscription N/A - Internet publication. Guidelines online at http://www.bloodlust-uk.com/submissionguidelines.htm

Current Needs: Stories we've published recently include; monologues, parodies on the Dracula myth, a story told completely in dialogue and a couple of romantic type vamp stories (very well-written ones). Give us something new! Why do vampires always have to suck blood? Can machines be vampiric? Be historic, give us brilliantly realised visions of the past (think Chelsea Quinn Yarbro), give us violent and biting vampire noire (think Laurel K Hamilton and Nancy A Collins). Make me want to vomit with the extremity of your vampires needs. Explore S & M, dammit we're not here to give you ideas, give us something we really aren't expecting. And remember, if it's a really startling idea, you can include all the things we don't want and you still might make it in. There is an awful lot of vampire fiction out there and an awful lot of it is rubbish. We don't pull our punches. We want your best. Submit per online submission form. Auto response sent upon receipt.

welcomes new writers

Pay: Pays GBP 0.01p per word for Up to 2000 words; GBP 20.00 max and reserve right to serialize for up to 6000 words; and for 6000+ words - Enquire first. Likely 'no' unless it knocks us off our seats.
Hints: We receive submissions from writers who think they are good or important enough to disregard every single one of our guidelines. All it actually says to us is 'I don't give a rats....'. I shouldn't have to comment further. Corny I know, but a little thought when submitting goes a long way. The only advice I can give is that Editors really are telling you the truth when they say: 'A well submitted piece goes to the top of the pile.' 'The first paragraph, sometimes the first sentence, tells me yes or no.' When writing your story, use the following mantra: 'beginning-middle-end'.- that's a story. If you have story construction 'down' then you're halfway there. List your publishing credits by all means, but bear in mind that these, rightly or wrongly, increase our expectations of you and do not influence whether we accept a story or not. We occasionally have a 'special' month, where there's a theme. Past themes include short-shorts (under 1000 words) and Halloween themes.
Photos/Art: If your piece is illustrated say so, and send the graphics in a separate email and I'll consider whether I can put them in. No additional pay.
