Pay: Pay varies with experience and assignment for features of approx. 1800 words plus sidebars.
Hints: The biggest problem we have is getting queries and stories that are either too general, are covered by our regular columns (and thus are smaller topics) or are irrelevant to our readers. Our readers have been in business several years and are looking for specific, in-depth information on how to better run their businesses. Take time to read the magazine (several issues) before querying. Then develop thorough, well-thought-out queries with possible sources. Then follow through with an insightful, entertaining, well-researched and well-reported article.
Photos/Art: Ask sources to send you art, which you then send to the articles editor who assigned the story. No additional pay.
