GEICO DIRECT magazine is published twice a year by K.L. Publications, Inc. for Government Employees Insurance Company and distributed to federal and military employees, as well as general policyholders, throughout the country. The magazine's editorial focus is on lifestyles, financial, recreational, automotive and travel subjects of interest to GEICO policyholders. In most cases, the articles are geared to automotive information and safety with respect to travel and home.
Current Needs: We prefer to receive queries rather than finished manuscripts or phone calls. Features: 1000-2100 words; Dept: 650-1000 words.
Pay: Pays $300-$600 for feature articles, depending on length, quality of writing and research required; $275-$375 for departments. All but speculative articles are assigned with contract.
Hints: Writing should be tight, reportorial and colorful, but don't sacrifice accuracy for adjectives. No poetry, fiction or cartoons. No essays, satire or humor.
Photos/Art: Buys mostly color, but some B&W glossies. 35mm (or larger) color transparencies. No color prints. Also uses illustrations.
