Current Needs: All articles are from a Christian perspective: ethical issues, professional growth, personal growth, cross-cultural nursing, profiles of nurses engaged in creative ministries, etc. Recent issues have focused on violence, nursing concepts and terminal illness. Submit per guidelines or query, though prefers email submissions with article attached.

Pay: Pays flat fee of $25 - $80. Major articles are eight to ten pages, typed and double-spaced, with normal one-inch margins. We do accept shorter first-person experience pieces, sometimes used as sidebars with major articles.
Hints: We primarily use nurse writers. One way a non-nurse freelancer can be published in JCN is to write a profile article about a nurse involved in a creative Christian ministry. We rarely accept poetry. Writing cannot be academic and a review of the literature. It can be based on research or academic study, but the results of same must be couched in interesting prose liberally sprinkled with true anecdotes and examples. We are not a clinical magazine so would not use a straight medical/nursing approach to a disease or treatment. Best way to get the flavor of our publication is to purchase back issues available for $2 each.
