Description of Publication:5-50% freelance. NurseZone is a news and information site providing today's working nurses, managers and nursing students with the latest news and resources in the nursing industry. The website has new articles/information daily, publishes an e-mail newsletter each week and has a complementary print publication printed twice each year. The print publication is distributed to nursing associations and colleges and at all major nursing trade shows. Work only with nurses. Circ not provided. 2 print issues/year. Website updated daily. Pays 30 days after receipt of ms. Publishes ms approximately 2 weeks after acceptance on website. Buys all rights. Occasionally accepts reprints, if it is a nurse-related article. Responds within 30 days. Sample online. Subscription free in US, only mailed to nursing associations (controlled circulation). Guidelines by mail with SASE.
Current Needs: News and feature stories about and written by nurse managers or bedside nurses (safety issues, patient care, technology at work, staffing issues, etc.). RN.com is very similar to the information listed here for NurseZone except that we do not accept previously published work and the focus is more towards Advancing Your Profession Education, Continuing Education, and Career Builder Nurses. Pay, rights, submission time and process are all the same. For the AMN Site, we need news that is focused on nurse managers and higher, much of it related to hospitals, staffing, programs that worked for other nurse managers, CMS and legislation information. Again, pay, rights, submission time and process are all same as NurseZone. Submit email query with bio and clips if available. Please do not send complete ms without approval of editor.
Pay: Pays flat fee of $300 for 600-800 words w/ included sidebar of resource/related information.
Hints: Please do not send fiction stories or stories about specific cases. Patient privacy is important to us. Instead, look at your specialty and consider what unique information, tips, and programs you could highlight. Example: Are you a nurse who has worked with your unit for 15 years and now must acclimate to a new generation of nurses? What works, what doesn't?
