5-10% freelance. SBN Magazine is the largest monthly business-to-business publication in Ohio. Every month, we provide decision makers with smart ideas to help their businesses grow. Welcomes new writers. Circ. 28,000 (Cleveland edition. We also have editions in Akron, Canton and Columbus [all Ohio], Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia. Each of those markets has its own editor.) Publishes monthly. Pays upon publication, and publishes manuscript approx. two months after acceptance. Buys first publication rights, republication rights, and electronic rights to reprint on our online edition. Accepts reprints if not published in our competition. Responds in 2-4 weeks on queries. Current Needs: Always looking for well-written, insightful case studies of how businesses use smart ideas. We are a regional publication, so we focus on Northeast Ohio businesses. Accepts anything from 50-word briefs to 1,000 words for features. Typical lengths are 500-750 words. Pay is determined on a per-item basis. Most feature stories pay between $150-$300/each. Query the editor with ideas either by email or by letter. Include a bio and contact information.

Hints: You must read our magazine in order to successfully pitch a story. We take a straightforward approach to covering how business owners ply their trades. We're not so much interested in the who, where, what and when, as the how and why.
Photos/Art: We do most art in-house, though if you have photos, we will accept them. Pays nothing extra for photos.
