Freelance percentage not provided. Scouting is also considered a family magazine. We published material we feel will help parents in strengthening families. (Because they often deal with communicating and interacting with young people, many of these features are useful to a reader in both roles as parent and Scout leader). Welcomes new writers, especially scout leaders. Circ. 900K+. Bimonthly. Pays on acceptance. Period between acceptance and publication varies. Buys first rights unless otherwise specified. No reprints. Responds 3 - 6 weeks. Sample on request with $2.50 and SASE. Subscription is included as part of each Scouter's registration fee.

Pay: Pays flat fee of $300 - $500 for short features of 500 - 700 words and $650 - $800 for longer features (usually assigned) up to 1200 words.
Hints: No fiction or poetry.
Photos/Art: Photos are usually included in piece with no extra pay, but cartoons are also used. No smoking, hunting or cruelty. Pays on acceptance for first rights to cartoons. Pays $75 per cartoon used.
