South American Explorer is a 64-page quarterly magazine on South America with articles on adventure travel, scientific discovery, history, archaeology, mountaineering, native peoples, languages, anthropology, geology, and more. Welcomes new writers. Circ. 10K. Quarterly. Pays on publication. Publishes ms 1 week - 3 months after acceptance. Buys first print rights, but now we'd like to post back issues [online]. Author retains ownership of piece. Accepts exceptional reprints. Responds when we find time given our small staff, but we're open to being badgered. Sample by crying poor or wheedling. Subscription $22. Guidelines by email request.

Pay: Pays $50 - $150 for 3000 - 5000 words plus membership to the South American Explorers, T-shirt, and meal with the staff when you pass through Ithaca, NY. Payment to regular contributors has been up to $300 and more.
Hints: We're not keen on accounts of two-week vacations unless particularly well written. Journal accounts generally don't work. Please request Writer's Guidelines.
