Description of Publication:
Sub Rosa Books is a new division of Sub Rosa Entertainment, Inc., a 23-year-old Motion Picture and Television production company. We are doing a Dummies-type series, called the B$ Series, which covers all subjects with an emphasis on entertainment-related subject matter. We are also open to novels that will make good movies and TV. Our first book came out in Sept. 2002 and we've got three more in the marketplace now, three at the printers, two in editing, and 12 in development so we haven't been around long enough to have an 'average' per year. We welcome new writers. (Someone needs to, that's where the talent comes from.) Average first print run of 5K. Most books also come out as full color eBooks with sounds effects and music, and in some cases Audio books. Token advance. We put our money into PR -- theory is, if we're gonna gamble $25K - $30K to get a book ready for the printer, the author needs to gamble also. Good royalty rate. Publishes around 6 months after acceptance. Responds within 3 months, hopefully. Distribution through Ingram and others. Catalogue not available. Guidelines on site at http://www.SubRosaBooks.com/books_guidelines.swf

Current Needs: We are looking for more books in our B$ Series. There is a specific style and attitude we need -- these books are really Schmoozing 101 in the different subject matter we are publishing -- they are not plain 'How To' books like Dummies and The Complete Idiots Guide. Go to http://www.HollywoodHotTips.com and read the pages that are there for our latest book, 'B$ a Script Sale ... when you don't live in Hollywood!' This will give you a real idea of the friendly, chatty tone but more importantly, the aim of the B$ Series. It's not just How To -- it's how to talk like an insider to get what you want. The series is very specific. Please send your B$ Series ideas to BSpitches at SubRosaBooks.com. Please email us a log line in a cover letter ... if you want to write a little pitch then no more than a paragraph about the book idea as we have others already in development and, as you know, ideas are in the air. If you've read the pages on the site and know what we're looking for, then we'll know the ones we want right away from just a log line.

welcomes new writers

Pay: Payment individually negotiated. 250K - 500K word limits.
Hints: Common mistakes: 1. Illiterate cover letters. 2. Email that's sloppy so we assume that the book will be sloppy too. 3. Not understanding that finding ideas is easy, it's the writing that's hard. Advice -- don't make any of the mistakes above. And learn your craft. It takes writing at least 30 scripts or a dozen books before you really understand foreshadowing both actions and character motivation. Writing for a living is not a get rich quick scheme. Ninety-five percent of the money made by members of the WGA is made by five percent of the writers and 90% of those are the hyphenates -- the writer-producers, writer-actors, and writer-directors. Having said that, if this is your dream -- go for it. And good luck.
