Pay: Royalties are industry high-end 10% to 15% on gross monies received (before not after costs), paid in March and September of each year.
Hints: Our big push for 2003 lies in our ...Revealed nonfiction, Lightning Rod Unlimited Episode and Internet guides and in our Little Blue Works divisions. We welcome both new and established writers. Authors have say into covers, interiors and editing. Books are rarely allowed to go out of print unless they're being replaced with a new edition. Books are never backlisted; marketing budgets are renewed annually for all books, not just new books. We also believe strongly in the Rule of Five: five books plus five years equals success. Unlike most other presses, we're open to authors jumping genres and writing what inspires them. Our experience has shown that once an author has five or more books in one genre for five years, then that author's royalty check will be substantial enough to live on. All of the staff grew up hearing the statistic that only 1% of all writers make their living as writers. This may be true overall, but at Windstorm we've seen several of our authors quit their day jobs, put their children through college, or treat themselves to incredible annual vacations on their royalty checks alone. This is not a guarantee of phenomenal success, but it is our experience.
