online at http://www.conceiveonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=30.
CURRENT NEEDS: "We are inundated with personal queries from writers who want to tell their own family-building stories or chronicle their own fertility problems. But what we're really looking for are new angles and news on fertility issues. We need writers who aren't afraid to do hard medical research and lots of interviews to get a story. We only run one personal essay per issue, but we have many features and departments. Pay depends on the word count and/or the section of the magazine. Can be anywhere from $100 to $2000. A dollar a word is a rough rule of thumb. Front- and back-of-book departments can be as short as a hundred words long, while full-length features can be a few thousand. The best way to submit is to send me a pithy, well-written email query with a link to a writer's website, or attached clips. I'll also look at snail-mail queries, but in addition to a cover letter please do include some samples of your work as well as a resume/CV (and a SASE)."
PHOTOS/ART: "We use stock photos, but we also do our own photo shoots and assign illustrations. Pay varies."
HINTS: "The biggest mistake writers make is sending queries on pregnancy, delivery, infant care or parenting. As I mentioned above, our readers aren't pregnant yet. We are not a pregnancy or parenting magazine."
