"We publish new literary fiction, poetry, essays, and translations." Welcomes new writers. Circulation 4K (in print); 20K visitors monthly (online). Publication comes out twice annually in print, and twice monthly online. Pays upon publication. Publishes ms approximately six months after acceptance. Buys First North American Serial rights for print publication and First Worldwide Serial for online publication. No reprints. Responds in two to four months. Writers can get a sample copy of the publication by mail or online for $10, postage paid within the US ($3 additional for Canada, $6 additional for all other countries). Current issues are $12. PHOTOS/ART: Pays $250 for the single featured visual artist per issue, for cover art, an eight-page glossy insert, and an essay.

Writing need not be typed, as long as it is legible. If you type your work, please type it double-spaced in a plain, medium-sized font. We can consider writing in languages other than English; include a translation if possible. The maximum length we can publish is about 2500 words; we have no minimum length. It's OK to send more than one piece of writing in the same envelope. Please don't send us work you are also sending to other magazines. Send your work to one magazine at a time." Pays $40. HINTS: "Nothing original in this advice but it still holds: Be sure you're familiar with our publication before you query, and submit a good query on a fresh topic. All of our articles, including the Off the Cuff essays, seek to provide some measure of instruction/advice/take-away benefits to a national audience of writers. Too much navel-gazing in essays won't cut it. Also, re our author interviews, these are not like general newspaper interviews; we are much more focused on specific questions of craft."
