Chapstick (R) Butt Balm

While the in-laws were here, we drove out to our new land. When we got there, which is located an inconvenient distance from any store, I was horrified to realize we'd left the diaper rash cream at home. Mason has very sensitive skin and his bottom was flaming red that day. In a panic, I reached for a tube of Chapstick that was in the diaper bag. Everybody had a good chuckle when I told them NOT to use the Chapstick in the diaper bag. (Actually, the tube application was very convenient - I simply had to paint Mason's butt with it!) We weren't there long and stopped for Desitin at a truck stop. When I changed Mason's diaper again, I was shocked to discover his rash was completely gone! So, there's your handy tip of the day. I would, of course, only recommend plain Chapstick. The flavored stuff may actually irritate a baby's skin. And, yes, I did notify Chapstick of our discovery.

On Saturday, we dropped Frank (age 13) off for summer camp. He's never been to overnight camp before and he'll be gone for seven whole days. Frank's quite a homebody and doesn't like to spend the night away from home. What finally changed his mind this year was when I said, "Every time I went to camp, I never wanted to go back home."

That's when he finally said, "Okay!"

Frank doesn't know any children who will be attending this particular camp when he is, but I told him I'm sure he'll run into somebody he knows. He's very personable and I'm sure he'll be fine. And, I'm sure he won't miss his mommy too much (sniff).

In Bangor, The Libra Foundation pays for summer camp (up to $1,000 per child, per year) for all Bangor children in grades 3 through 6. The program is called Camp Bangor. It's a wonderful foundation and I know it's made a huge difference in the lives of many children who would not otherwise have been able to attend camp.

Unfortunately, it wasn't until this year that we were able to talk Frank into going to overnight camp. He's in 7th grade and is no longer eligible. And, while camp is pricey, I'm sure Frank's memories and photographs (we sent him with disposable cameras, of course) will be worth every penny and more.
