March 28, 2007 How Some POD Publishers Milk Authors Hi Angela, Wow, GREAT article on the in's and out's of POD publishing! Thanks for the detailed info, like the various prices to expect! Dave Kaiser ----- Hi Angela, This week's POD contract tips are INDESCRIBABLY helpful. I cannot thank you enough. I dare not write you again because so much has been helpful lately that you might not believe me, BUT I still have to say it, and with a THANK YOU!!!! Best! ----- Hello, Angela! Bless you! You have done it again! You have provided invaluable information for free for anyone with the wits to read it. I refer to your comparison of POD publishers. I'm ghosting a problematical manuscript. It's problematical in terms of its market for big publishers. I've got one small old-style publisher interested, but who knows? I think the lady might have to self-publish. I'll recommend she send it to you for a look. Another book I'm working on is all mine and, although I've mainly had contracts with the likes of IDG and Simon & Schuster, I actually want control of this one in my own hands.....and again, I shall inquire as to whether Booklocker might like to publish it when it's ready. As always, thank you for your extraordinary service to those of us who toil unattached in the halls of literature and journalism. Sincerely, Laura ----- I totally agree with your article. Unfortunately, I went with xlibris.com, not realizing that they had no concern about the author and sales. I paid for the professional as opposed to the basic. I did the cover myself and and chose the outline, that is like five minutes work. The bottomline is that I was not satisfied with them. They took a long time to produce my book, for five minutes of real work, and then gave me three days until publication, not a month's notice to get things rolling. That said, I sold 11 books and got the equivalent of about 100 Canadian dollars for the 1200 Canadian I spent at the time I published with them. I paid them in March and they did not produce my book until October/November of the same year in 2004. I have since cancelled with them. -Name not published on request.
