Writer's First Hate Mail

Hi,

I just wanted to let you both know that July must be "attack a writer month" as I experienced my first "hate posts" last week.

It came out of the blue for me, too. I’d been participating in a writing forum since Feb/Mar or so and, after giving what I thought was also pretty basic advice about ebooks, I was told, among other things, that I had no business advising anyone. The person went on to say my site, my biz, is to scam writers, and he even threw in some profanity for good measure. In addition, the "moderator" popped in, only to support the other guy. It was also explained to me that none of this was bad behavior on their part, only "criticism", which I obviously couldn’t take. Things work a bit differently there if you can’t tell.

All in all, and I’m sure much to the dismay of my detractors, things worked out just fine for me. I got two blog posts, a newsletter article and potentially another one, and I believe a little site traffic out of the whole silly mess. In my world, that adds up to Bully 0 - Me 5 and that works for me.

So, now I, too, have "officially arrived" according to several friends (and your article). Here’s to being where we are, wherever it is.
