CURRENT NEEDS: "The main thing we look for is fresh stories with a strong Minnesota connection. Topics we cover include the arts, people, health, food, wine, travel, home and garden, and general interest. Read a couple issues of the magazine before querying, though. We also accept personal essays and submissions for a section called Journey (diary format). These must be submitted in their entirety." Generally pays $0.50/word. Article lengths vary. Submit query letter with photocopied clips. "Don't send originals. Always include a SASE, and give us at least several months lead-time. For seasonal stuff, a year or more (to allow for photography, etc.)"

HINTS: "We want your story ideas, but we see a lot of queries for stories without a strong Minnesota connection, or that make it clear that the writer has never seen our magazines. Check out the magazine before querying to be sure you're targeting our readers. Also, expect that it will take a little while for your query to make it through our decision process. Do not call or email to check on its status, and be sure to give us several months lead-time, a year of more if the story is seasonal. Include photocopied (not original) clips with your query, and a SASE."
