CURRENT NEEDS: Resumes and clips. Pays "flat fees based on length and complexity from $150 for a single magazine page (3.5 double-spaced manuscript pages) to $500 for detailed, complex subject from experienced writers of 3 - 4 magazine pages. Will accept query letter with outline of proposed story or complete manuscript. Best to query first to be sure idea is acceptable before spending time preparing article. Like to know if manuscript is being shopped around to other publications, but such practice does not hamper acceptance. For some technical articles, acceptance will depend upon review from ALPA Engineering & Air Safety Dept. All articles are subject to editing and review from ALPA experts and officials."

Will accept prints, slides, negatives, or high-resolution computer images (at least 300 dpi resolution at actual size used--cover approx. 8/11 inches). Email images acceptable for review only to determine if want to publish. Will then need slide/print/or hi-res digital image on disk. Request SASE for return of images. Images for cover must be very sharp with good color. Aircraft shown must be carriers that employ ALPA pilots (see website for list). Pilots shown should be identified if possible. Locations must be identified. Photo credit used. "Payment varies based on size and placement as we require. Pays $450 for cover; $75-$100 for small inside use; up to $200 for full page 4-color inside."
HINTS: "99.9% of our articles are non-fiction prose. Many are very technical. Generally articles must have some direct impact on an airline pilot's life, health, or profession. We do not use many topics or issues that are secondary to an airline pilot's concerns. We are very selective for cover photos as we only have 10 a year and we have 55 airlines to represent. For example, if I have already used a Delta cover in the last 12 months, I am less likely to select another cover with Delta aircraft or pilots. If you have a good idea or manuscript, I cannot publish it if I don't see it. Submit your ideas, in writing, first. Email is a good way to send ideas or manuscripts. If we accept your emailed article then we do not have to re-key it into our system. We have a PC-based publishing system and use MSWord, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Pagemaker software."
