"The New Physician covers topics of interest to medical students, including career advice, trends in higher education and health policy. Our readership is highly educated, young and very busy. Our stories must give them compact, in-depth information they don't get in their classes." 30% freelance. Welcomes new writers. Circ. 37K. Monthly with three double issues. Pays on acceptance. Publishes ms 2 months after acceptance. Buys all rights. No reprints. Responds 3 weeks. Sample available by emailing tnp-at-amsa.org or check out content online. HINTS: Common mistake is when writers "miss our audience. This is not a publication for health care consumers--it's a publication for future health care providers. Because much of our editorial calendar is fixed, it's better to get to know writers before they send any queries. Usually we have assignments waiting to be paired with writers."

Oatmeal Studios Greeting Card Co., P.O. Box 138 - EWW, Rochester, VT 05767. Email: dawn-at-oatmealstudios.com. Website: http://www.oatmealstudios.com. Dawn Abraham, Editor. PHOTOS/ART: "If you have illustrations or photos with your ideas send a query first with a description and we will tell you how to best submit. See our website for more info. about art requirements. Pay is negotiable.
HINTS: "Read cards on the racks in stores and try to write something you would buy (and maybe all your friends would buy, too)."

Guidelines available once writer's application is accepted by the editor.
CURRENT NEEDS: Writers "Professionalism, able to stick to deadlines, Knowledge of the beauty industry is a plus." Pays $0.10/word for 600-1200 word articles. OTC Beauty Magazine will assign articles to writers once they have submitted cover letter, resume and at least three writing samples and have been accepted.
PHOTOS/ART: Editor requests that writer ask contacts for high-res images to go along with the article.
HINTS: "Because OTC Beauty Magazine serves such a niche market, this is not a magazine that you can write for once and think you understand our audience. Writers are usually long term, but not necessarily monthly. Much help is provided by the editor to learn about the industry."

HINTS: "Read back issues or go online and see back issues for coverage over past 2 or so years. It's a GAY publication. All pieces have to have a gay angle.
